It is possible that a number of factors are at play when an older person stops eating. First and foremost, it is natural for an older adult to eat less than they did when they were younger, since their metabolism slows down and their bodies may have lower nutritional requirements. There are a variety of reasons why dementia patients quit eating, and it is critical to understand why they may begin to avoid food. Patients suffering from dementia may refuse to eat if they detest the cuisine or if they are attempting to communicate that their meal is too hot or too cold.
