“ Personal care ” refers specifically to support and/or supervision with ADLs. Our licensed in-home care professionals provide personal care support with ADLs—each of which play a vital role in maintaining a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle for seniors in need.
Examples of ADLs that are often provided under the personal care services benefit include bathing, eating, toileting, positioning and transferring, dressing and walking. IADLS provided under the benefit typically include doing laundry, performing light housework, shopping for groceries and preparing meals.
Personal care means anything done for you that’s of a personal nature. This may include: personal hygiene – bathing, showering, hair washing, shaving, oral hygiene and nail care . continence management – toileting, catheter/stoma care , skin care , incontinence laundry and bed changing.
Caregivers work in the home and help their clients with daily activities, such as bathing and bathroom functions, feeding, grooming, taking medication, and some housework. Caregivers help clients make and keep appointments with doctors, provide or arrange transportation and serve as a companion for their clients.
At a minimum, bathing once or twice a week helps most seniors avoid skin breakdown and infections. Using warm washcloths to wipe armpits, groin, genitals, feet, and any skin folds also helps minimize body odor in between full baths. However, some dementia caregivers say it’s actually easier to bathe every day.
