Only 4.5 percent (about 1.5 million) of older adults live in nursing homes and 2 percent (1 million) in assisted living facilities. The majority of older adults (93.5 percent, or 33.4 million) live in the community.
A retirement home – sometimes called an old people’s home or old age home, although old people’s home can also refer to a nursing home – is a multi-residence housing facility intended for the elderly. Many older adults, of course, do move to planned senior housing —communities for “active seniors, ” independent living, assisted living, nursing homes, or continuing care communities that combine all of the above. Nursing Homes. Florida is well known for being home to the largest amount of seniors in the country. As of 2016, 19.9% of the state’s population was 65 years of age or older. On top of that, Florida has four of the top ten towns with the highest senior population – Clearwater, Hialeah, Cape Coral, and Miami.
The smaller towns of Naples and Punta Gorda are extremely popular with retirees as both have populations that are more than 40 percent 65+. Southwest Florida is also considered a gateway to the Everglades, so older nature lovers might feel particularly at home in this region.
There are old people who do not wish to be a burden to their kids and want to spend their golden years independently. This is why they choose to live in old age homes. They want to enjoy their life engaging in fun activities but at the same time having people to rely on to assist them with their needs.
