Good for the elderly
SENIORS CAN GUIDE OTHERS Whenever possible, seniors should help younger generations in need. This is evidenced by passages such as Psalm 71:18, which says “Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.”
Qualifications. There are two key passages dealing with the qualifications of elders in the New Testament, 1Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9. The qualifications given by the Apostle Paul are as follows: Blameless as a steward of God, above reproach.
It renders v. 10: [ As for] the days of our years, in them are seventy years; and if [men should be] in strength, eighty years; and the greater part of them would be labor and trouble; for weakness overtakes us, and we shall be chastened.
Leviticus 19:32 says to “Stand up in the presence of the elderly, and show respect for the aged.” Whenever an elderly person comes into the room, ALWAYS stand up. Here are a few other ways we can all truly honor our elders: Give elderly people your time and assistance.
What does the Bible say about helping the poor and sick? Proverbs 19:17 (NIV) “ Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.”
Father, we pray that You would soften our hearts to our elderly neighbors—that you would stir us to love them in both word and deed. Spirit, move us toward action, help us to slow down, to take the time to offer care and assistance to our elderly neighbors for whom daily life has become a struggle.
We should appoint elders together The importance of leadership in this process is straightforward in the New Testament. The Apostles “appointed elders” in every church they planted (Acts 14:23), and Paul exhorted Titus to “put what [remains] in order, and appoint elders” in Crete (Tit. 1:5).
In the Bible, Jesus himself never promises that a person’s life lasts threescore and ten, or 70 years. However, Psalm 90:10 does make a reference to that period of time, saying, “ The days of our years are threescore years and ten.” Since a “score” means 20, “threescore and ten” refers to the number 70.
‘Three score and ten’ is the nominal span of a human life. In the days that this expression was coined that span was considered to be seventy years.
The Bible neither favors nor forbids the process of cremation. Nevertheless, many Christians believe that their bodies would be ineligible for resurrection if they are cremated. This argument, though, is refuted by others on the basis of the fact that the body still decomposes over time after burial.
We should pay attention to what our elders have to say because they do have wisdom we have yet to reach. However, age is not an indicator of a person deserving respect. The phrase “respect your elders” should not be used as a weapon to control a person’s opinions and genuine feelings.
” Honor thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee” (Deuteronomy 5:16a). Disrespectful actions of children, no matter their age, are abhorred by God, and there’s no place that’s worse to see the disrespectful actions of children than in a homeschooling family.
Ways to Honor Our Elders
1 Timothy 6:7-8 If your family member is truly in need of help with things like food, clothing, and housing, we can certainly help them. But if they demand money for frivolous things and/or aren’t willing to support themselves, you have no financial obligation to gift them the money to pay for these things.
Bible Gateway Leviticus 19:: NIV. “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ` Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy. “`Each of you must respect his mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God.
Then you go all the way back to 1 Timothy 5:8, I believe it is, and it says to take care of your own household first. Your first goal after the tithe is take care of your household.
